Asexual reproduction means to produce offspring without a mate...  with asexual reproduction the offspring are clones of the parent.  cloning plants by propagating cuttings is an easy, inexpensive way to produce a new plant reliably and in short time.

the simplest way to to clone a plant is to take a cutting from a branch of a parent plant.  leaves are removed from the lower portion of the cutting then the stem is placed in water to start roots.   new roots will develop, then the cutting can be planted.

rootcup blocks light from roots so that they grow quicker, also because light is blocked, algae growth is basically eliminated.

the lid of rootcup protects the water from open air spores and captures evaporating water, so the water needs little attention.
